Mary PlattA 1973 graduate of the school of Occupational Therapy at the University of Puget Sound, Mary Platt’s work experience has focused on the rehabilitation of elders; first in home health and currently as a dementia consultant in private practice.

Mary has had the bittersweet blessing of caring for her father, an aunt and two uncles who experienced different disorders resulting in dementia.

Mary has advanced training as an Allen Authorized Advisor, which allows her to teach the Allen Cognitive Levels model. She was a founding member of the national Allen Cognitive Advisors board of directors. Clinicians throughout the United States and Britain use Mary’s manual At Home with the Allen Cognitive Levels; a quick onsite reference guide that aids the evaluation and care recommendations of cognitive function.

Training in sensory modulation, the Walbarger Protocol for sensory defensiveness and Neurofeedback contribute to her clinical skills and support her growing expertise in dementia agitation management.

Mary is a member of AOTA and OTAO – national and state occupational therapy associations. For more than a decade she designed and implemented Legacy Visiting Nurse Associations’ Fall Prevention program. Mary was awarded the 2002 Oregon Association for Home Care Hope Runnels Award “In recognition of her outstanding leadership, service and achievement as a pioneer for home health care in Oregon.”
